In the Celtic traditions, Imbolc is sacred to Brighid (or Bride -- her name has many variants), goddess of poetry and inspiration. Many pagans consider her Sabbat a good time to seek inspiration. And ever since humans first spent nights looking upward, building constellations, the stars have inspired us.
A certain twelve of those constellations, the zodiac, have been used to predict the course of human events since Sumerian times, more than four millennia ago. In this hemisphere, the Maya and others created their own forms of astrology. This Imbolc issue, we offer a set of astrology-related stories, including not only a cover story on basic spell-planning by the stars but also some advice on how to use the sometimes problematic energy of Mercury retrograde to your benefit, as well as thoughts on working with the Venus transit of the Sun on June 8. As we do every issue, we give suggestions on how to use astrology in your spells. We offer too for your inspiration some music to get you through these last gray days of winter.
Check out also our letters to the editor online at www.widdershins.org. We've gotten some interesting responses on recent (and not-so-recent) writings in the paper. You might be surprised -- or inspired to write us as well.
