Clear Your Karma and Have Better Sex

Every deity knows that I love to talk about sex. This is the Beltaine issue, and I am a screaming sucker for Beltaine. I fall in love every time May rolls around, sometimes disastrously, sometimes just impulsively, but always with heartbreaking passion, stunningly fabulous sex and charming cameo appearances from gods and angels.

But I'm not going to indulge my desire for a baser conversation. Instead, I'm going to talk about relationship, that thing that holds us together so we can have great sex for extended periods of time, not just when the moon is ripe and the fields need fertilization. I believe we are in changing times, that the human race is being called to evolve beyond our previous limitations, that we are all being challenged to be better than we have ever been before.

This is going somewhere, really. It's simple. Clear energy leads to better relationships, which leads to fantastic sex. There's always an incentive to do your personal work.

How do you clear your energy to prepare for a better relationship, whether you're in one or single? Other than therapy or journaling or meditation or sweat lodges or personal empowerment seminars or marriage counseling or what have you, I've recently been given a new technique for clearing karma.

The simplest popular definition for karma is "action that has consequences." I'm not big on being controlled during this lifetime, and certainly not by things I did while wearing another form centuries ago. All the actions, contracts, vows, and promises I made, or others made to me, have the potential to still be hanging out cluttering up my relationship field, bringing on new consequences.

For example, I met a guy online. He seemed great--he talked to aliens, he chanted, he grew organic produce, he was into Tantric shamanic exploration. What more could a witchy girl ask for? As soon as I met him in person, I was pissed as hell. I remembered when he left me standing on a beach, pregnant with his child, about 600 years ago. He sailed off into the sunset to chase some dumb dream, and I was left alone to thoroughly screw up the job of raising our child. Pretty typical past-life scenario. If you've done any recall of your own, you know that the plots are not always happy, and there's generally someone to be pissed at, or something to be ashamed of. Or both.

My problem with this situation was that I couldn't get present with this guy. I was mad about some really, really old news, and it was preventing me from seeing what might be possible with him now. I was being controlled by past events, my emotional field was all messy and I was just plain fed up with all the old karma surfacing piece by piece to be resolved. I mean, if you've lived a few hundred lives, it can get pretty tedious balancing things with each of the thousands of players with whom you didn't leave things on a perfectly happy note.

Here's the "I'm just not going to take it anymore" recipe for karmic clearing, hot off the press. It's brand new, folks. I've done it, and I'm still standing and powerfully better for it, but please do check in with your own wisdom before proceeding. Write me when you're done--let me know how it went and how you feel afterward!

The first part is letting go of what other people owe you. The second part is letting go of what you owe others. I recommend this order, to help with the guilt inherent in the second half. It's real easy to say "I forgive your debt to me"; you get to feel all noble and Christ-like about it. But saying "I don't owe none of y'all nothing," well, I felt guilty. What got me through it was remembering all the work I did to release others from their karmic bonds, and surely I deserve the same consideration.

By the way, none of this is going to force you to abandon your family and go live in a yurt. It releases the prior promises component, but does not affect your ability to honor the responsibilities you freely choose to carry. If you're not sure you've got the strength of character to stick around and raise your children of your own free will, and the old obligation is the only thing keeping you home, well, then perhaps I don't recommend this process for you.

This ritual is designed to be done chakra-by-chakra, starting at the crown and working your way down. Do a separate ritual for each chakra, separated by a period of two days to a week. Less than two days limits your ability to do really deep work, and it would be hard to maintain focus for more than a week. You do the whole series of seven ceremonies twice, first for others, second for yourself. It will take between a moon and a quarter year, depending on how fast you go.

Do your basic ritual stuff. For me, I gathered a seven-day candle, sage and my words of intention. As I lit the candle and smudged, I called in the seven directions and everyone I thought should be present. Then I spoke my intentions out loud, eyes closed, feeling the energy shift as I spoke each sentence. When I was so moved, I repeated a sentence until I felt it "take." Sometimes a sentence would "take" right away, but it felt so good I chanted it for a while. Spend some time just focusing your attention on the chakra, and feeling things unwrap counter-clockwise. When I was done I asked my team to help keep the ties of karmic crap unwrapping until my next ceremony, and released the circle. I let a candle burn down for each chakra, as a reassuring reminder that energy was still moving.

This is what I said as I worked through the chakras the first time:

I release the idea that any being owes me, owns me or is contractually bound to take care of me. (Insert chakra specifics here.) I release the soul currently known as _____ from any karmic or contractual obligation toward me at the crown (etc.) and in general. (Repeat with everyone who comes into your mind, no matter how obscure the connection might seem to you). I release all souls, past, present and future, from any karmic or contractual obligation toward me. I release the emotional debris I carry from feeling owned, owed, abandoned, disappointed and like the victim of broken promises. My relationships now are a joyous dance between souls consciously and freely choosing to celebrate life together. In the highest and best good of all. So mote it be.

Chakra specifics would be things like "I release the idea that any being is responsible for my connection to God. I release the idea that any being owns my spiritual self" for the crown. For the belly, try something like "I release the idea that any being can control my sexuality. I release the idea that any being is bound to be in relationship with me." Let your intuition be your guide. Of course, modify the language to fit your verbal style and your particular intentions. I know the language in the ritual sounds repetitive, and it is. But let me tell you, by the time you've said "release from karmic or contractual obligation" a few hundred times in circle, it's got some power behind it.

Okay, so you've done this at crown, third eye, throat, heart, solar plexus, belly, and root. You've let everyone you've ever known off the hook for everything you've ever held against him or her. You've let this energy of divine forgiveness ripple throughout your past, unhooking karmic crud you didn't know you had, and now will never have to deal with. Now it's your turn.

For the second pass through the chakras, say something like:

I release the idea that I owe, own or am contractually bound to take care of any being. (Insert chakra specifics here.) I release myself from any karmic or contractual obligation toward the soul currently known as _____. (Repeat until done.) I release myself from any karmic or contractual obligation toward all souls, past, present and future. I release the emotional debris I carry from feeling burdened, trapped and unable to choose freely. My relationships now are a joyous dance between souls consciously and freely choosing to celebrate life together. In the highest and best good of all. So mote it be.

So what did I experience as I did this? Well, sometimes it felt like a corkscrew was being shoved down through my spine excruciatingly slowly. But in a good way. I mean, I felt an accumulation of momentum as I moved through the chakras, the stuff released above helping push the more denser, emotionally muckier stuff out of the way in the lower three. I couldn't take a bath for the entire first two weeks--showering was fine, but sitting in the stuff that was flying off me was entirely out of the question.

I highly recommend keeping to a schedule as you do this. It seems to help keep the energy moving. And if one of the chakras is extra hard, I don't think it helps to spend more time there. Just give it a deadline, and move on.

At throat chakra I felt like my neck was the spindle on a vacuum cleaner. Like the ritual was the scissors that cut through the bulk of that big mass of hair and fuzz. And then the next two days were the process of grabbing the smaller pieces, the stuff in the corners, and pulling it off the spindle. I also retreated into silence, broken by a sudden need to tone. One chakra was particularly intense for me, and I was dizzy for the full two days both times. In general, I felt strange moods and I went with them, indulging whatever weird posture seemed necessary to move the energy. I was taking two days for each, and I didn't see many people while I was doing this, but my friend, who is taking a week for each, reports continuing on with the rest of her life quite nicely. You'll find your own rhythm.

Coming out of it, I feel unbelievably lighter. Freed of bonds I didn't know were weighing on me, and delighted that I have the power to redirect my destiny in this way. If you're tired of getting roped into whirlwind relationships that feel inescapable and out of balance at the same time, give this a try. You just might find a little liberation.

Which leads to better sex. Orgasm is a sudden release of energy. Better orgasm is a sudden release of energy that travels up the spine. Better-than-that orgasm pervades the entire body. Better-than-that and you're merging with the divine, breathing with all the cosmos, intimately sure that your bliss is causing sap to rise in Ecuador and babies to smile in Africa. The only difference between the flavors is how clear the energy pathways in your body are. Isn't that enough incentive?
