My memory of Mother Danu

initiation, Lammas Eve, 1993

poem

"As long the night seemed, though lit with stars
My mind was full, of forests and streams
Of a time when the standing stones glowed with the moon
SHE was here, smiling upon me, I knew we were one
Ban-tigearna bhinn, Bhaindidh, mhin,
Is tu gile nan speura
Melodious Lady, as a Goddess in loveliness,
Thou art of the moon and skies
I repeated these words to my priestess
as I watched her eyes flash and twinkle with a smile
And as the incense was offered up and placed upon the altar
A very large female spider
White as the moon
Crawled up from behind the altar, and over the chalice of wine
"It is a sign," said my priestess
"You are now a child of our Mother, the Moon,
and our Father the Sun"
"The Universe is pleased you have come full circle"
"Oh England, now, my lionheart,
As Eire plays her tune,
With every Scot, a warrior,
on a sweet Welsh afternoon"
Take me home....
