This is the Imbolc issue of Widdershins. If you actually looked at the Raven's Call last issue, you know that this issue is supposed to be about "Inspiration and Transcendence". It isn't. Somewhere along the road to press, the Fey came and hijacked this issue.
We didn't plan it this way, it just worked out. We have no big, heavy, scholarly stories and no political debates this issue. The articles here are short and sweet. A collection of random beautiful things, some poignant, some light, just like the Fey.
It started with the actual Fey garden article. It showed up. It wasn't particularly topical, but it moved right in. Then came my dream catcher article. It is closer to the topic, as dreams are transcendent, but it is really more arts and crafts. The Fey like arts and crafts. From there, any pretense of theme disappeared. Another gardening article followed and our magickal forecast for the millennium.
Then the Fey really started playing silly buggers with the issue. Suddenly we had no cover article and no Speculum. They conspired against us and we missed all our deadlines. Something had to be done.
We knew that the Fey are big on fun times and pretty music, so we gave them reviews of that kind of stuff, hoping to appease them. It worked a bit and the Fey let us off the hook for the Imbolc fire/purification article which is actually on the back-up theme of "Imbolc". They also let us have the meditation, which could be said to be about transcending pain.
So this issue of Widdershins is really dedicated to the Fey. The way they move in and take over. What they like and how they get what they want. Now that I think about it, the Fey are kind of inspiring. And they certainly transcend all of our rules. Since many of the people who work on the paper are part of a Sylvan Faerie tradition, it isn't surprising that this kind of thing happens sometimes.
Here they go again. I started saying no political debates, and they jumped in with the letters section, which I hadn't seen, to prove me wrong. Ok, Fey, enough already...
If you want to submit articles, and let the Fey have their way with you, too, the themes for the next few issues are: Oestara: Solitaries, Beltaine: Celtic Magick, and Litha: Modern Primitives.
