Blood on the Tripod

It was 9:00 AM, three hours before the "Reclaim the Streets" protest and street party. We wanted to close off the street to traffic and that meant a tripod. For those who don't know activism jargon, a tripod consists of three poles, each at least 15 feet long, tied together in pyramidal fashion. A person sits on top making it impossible to move safely without special equipment to get the climber out first. The tripod sits in the center of a road that needs blocking.

We were in a parking lot practicing putting up the tripod quickly. Normally, you lay out the tripod, all the poles next to each other. One person holds the center pole by the knot while other people pull the other two poles apart. Then a group holding a rope attached to the top pulls and the tripod rises up. The center leg is pulled into position and the sitter climbs up. This time it didn't go as planned. The sitter held the center pole in the wrong place. When the other legs were split, their ends came together, crushing two of his fingers in a vice grip. He screamed, blood went everywhere, and we rushed to help him.

When it became apparent that he wasn't seriously hurt, I went back to the tripod. Blood stained the rope, the knot, and the poles. I closed my eyes and felt the energy. We hadn't planned on a sacrifice, but since we had one, I wasn't going to let it go to waste. I called to Gaia and asked that She accept this offering and lend Her protection to us for the protest later. We were doing Her work, after all. When I invoked Her, we channeled the energy of the blood through the knot and into the legs of the tripod. When we finished, the tripod glowed with the cool energy of Gaia.

A friend of mine, a Catholic from Ireland, watched all this happen. He came over and said, "Here, I think this might work better." Then he prayed over the tripod. He prayed to Jesus. As Christ had bled on the Cross, so we had bled on the tripod. He asked Christ to give us strength and protection to aid us in doing good works. I was still in tune with the tripod energetically and watched in amazement as the energy changed. It swirled and spun, vibrating through the tripod. It formed a ring of stars around where the blood had been shed.

My friend was right. It did work better. On a magickal level, the energies of Christ were much more in tune with an offering of blood than Gaia's were. My friend was a traditional Catholic with no magickal training. I don't think he could even see what happened on an energy level. But I saw it and it was potent. The protest action went off without major problems. We blocked the road for about two hours and then left voluntarily. The police didn't even arrest the tripod climber as they normally do. The spells, both pagan and Christian, worked their magic....
