Now is the time of sacrifice. John Barleycorn, the corn king, reigns and the only way to survive the winter is to kill him. We must harvest that which we have planted. John knows it's coming; he doesn't mind too much. That is why he was born.Mabon is upon us. A still quiet blankets the land broken only by the distant sounds of the harvest scythes. The wheel is turning and it is going down from here. Winter is coming and the question is are we ready?
This issue of Widdershins is devoted to sacrifice: sacrifice for our survival, sacrifice for the Earth. The wheel of the year and the wheel of life are both turning and sacrifice gives us a chance at completing our ride. There is a secret of sacrifice we should remember. Some of us won't survive the turning and sacrifice makes sure that there will be a friendly face on the other side to greet us. John will be there and with him the joys of his summer reign.
