A moon-based astrological calendar date book.
A calendar book that actually begins with the Winter Solstice! Amazing! We'Moon opens with an invocation of the manifold goddesses of wisdom - then goes on to explain the natural earth, moon and sun cycles that we womyn are so much a part of.
We'Moon is chock-full of informational pages about how to use the book and the facts that it contains. These are filled with considerable material for novices as well as for those of us who rely on this information daily. Whether or not we already understand this material, it is useful to be reminded.
There is a lot of intentional diversity in the spiritual systems We'Moon presents throughout. For example, there is an astrological page concerning the major planetary transitions for the year; an elucidation of the Chinese year of the Yellow Tiger; and a page explaining about the earth-based Wheel of the Year holy days that are each allied in this case with a different goddess. (I thought this was a great idea!) Interpretations of lunar rhythms and phases, moon signs and transits and finally sun signs. The "Year at a Glance" feature each month, is an overview of the upcoming year for each sun sign; these have, so far, been extremely accurate for me.
We'Moon is laid out as a calendar book that opens to show a week at a time with daily pages that each have the moon phase, sign and some basic astrological aspects. The pages also have much diverse and multicultural lore, from pagan to Jewish to African and more. Strewn in amongst all the information, it is brimming with inspiring, womyn-focused quotes, poems, artwork, short essays and photos. Continuing the diversity, the months and days of the week are labeled in several languages including English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.
This year's (1998) theme is Wise Womyn Ways. A preface written by Musawa, includes an explanation of how they arrive at a theme for each year, and it felt very inclusive to me, to be offered an explanation that I had never considered before.
The Crone plays a starring role this year, and she is portrayed as the wise woman, the healer, the harbinger of death, and what most of us womyn ultimately become. Every chapter has many quotes relevant to how the wise womyn might reveal Herself in our lives.
The innumerable quotes, stories, photos, illustrations and multidimensional artworks based on the myriad aspects of the wise womyn, past, present and future, are created and contributed by womyn from around the world.
We'Moon has endless wisdom. I look at it every day - and not just because I scrawl appointments in it. I consult it for moon sign information when I'm feeling stressed out, for mercury retrograde times when things are going haywire, for when the full and new moons occur, for both Widdershins and my coven - and the list goes on and on. I use it for magickal correspondences constantly. I cherish this book; I purchase it each and every year - as soon as I can locate it. It is one of the most significant, useful resources that I have. I think it's wonderful and recommend it to all womyn (or men who don't mind the female-centric approach).
