Llewellyn's 1998 Witch's Calendar, Llewellyn Publishers, $12.00

I guess it's finally time to come out of the broom closet!

This being the inaugural year for The Witch's Calendar, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. What Llewellyn has managed to produce is a stunningly beautiful, information packed calendar.

It is set up as a "Normal" Julian calendar is, with the Months at the top of the page, but the corresponding Wiccan Holiday is right below. The calendar features 12 different color drawings by Anne Marie Garrison and Cynthia Ahlquist. Alongside the artwork is "Witchy Info" penned by some of the more prolific among us, including Raven Grimassi and Ray Buckland. Also included for each month is a recipe for either an oil, or food, etc. At the back of the calendar, you will find pages on the "fundamentals" of Witchcraft -- the Sabbats, the Rede, Familiars, etc. All this, for only $12.00!

I am just so thrilled to have a beautiful calendar with Witchcraft clearly stated as its theme, that I would hang this up no matter what it looked like. One of the things I especially like is the fact that, like Llewellyn's Astrological Calendar, all of the pertinent daily Astro Info is right there...great for figuring out those ideal spell casting times. I also like this calendar because it really lays out the "year of a Witch" quite nicely for those who are just getting started on the path and may be confused with all of the dynamics involved. This way, the Fundamentals, Holidays, Astro Info, recipes, planting and harvesting information are all in one place, eliminating the need to consult several different resources in order to get your Wiccan act together.

Those of us who have been in the craft a while will probably scoff at this calendar for being a bit too over the top. Pah! I say. Hey, ball point pen writes very well on glossy paper and even though I feel I have a grasp on the information included therein, I still like something attractive to look at. Basically, you can hang this at work if you want to.

I have no choice but to recommend this calendar to all of us in the craft. Puppies & Kittens? Been there, done that. Llewellyn's 1998 Witch's Calendar? Kewl!
