The Witches Rede

adapted

Bide these Witches laws ye must
With perfect love and perfect trust.

Mind ye live and let live,
Fairly take and fairly give.

Cast the circle thrice about
To keep unwanted spirits out;

To bind a spell each and every time
Let the spell be made in rhyme.

Soft of eye and light of touch,
Speak ye little, and listen much

Deosil go by waxing moon
Sing and dance ye Witches rune.

Widdershins go on waning moon
Chanting out the baleful tune.

When the Lady's moon is new
Kiss ye hands to her times two.

When the moon rides at her peak
Then your heart's desire seek.

Nine woods 'neath the cauldron go.
Burn it fast and burn it slow.

Elderwood, the Lady's tree,
Burn it not or cursed you be.

Then the wheel begins to turn,
Soon the Beltaine fire will burn.

When the wheel has turned to Yule,
Light the log, the Horned one rules.

Fruit and flower, bush and tree
By our Lady, Blessed Be.

Where the rippling waters flow,
Cast a stone, and truth you'll know

When ye have and hold a seed,
Harken not to other's greed.

With a fool, no season spend
Or be counted as his friend.

Mind the Threefold Law you should
Nine times bad or nine times good.

True in love must ever ye be,
Lest thy love be false to thee.

These eight words in rede fulfill:
And harm ye none, do what thou will.

Bright the smile and warm the heart.
Merrily meet and merry part.
