Birthday Thoughts: Community

Merry meet!

Widdershins has been around a full turn of the wheel; one year ago, we published our first issue. It has been really fun, a lot of work and a priceless experience. We have gone through the typical growing pains and will continue to grow and change, hopefully for the better.

This Beltaine issue is dedicated to sex and the sacred whore, one of the many aspects of the Goddess. We know that this is a controversial subject; we hope to constantly be on the edge, pushing boundaries to learn and grow from fresh and exciting new concepts.

One of our other important objectives has always been to build community, both locally and in the larger sense. Even though some folks don't believe there is a "community," we know better - we know you, our readers, our "community" is out there. If there were one thing I, as publisher, would hope to accomplish this next year, it is to create a greater sense of connection and community for everyone who desires it. In the next year, I will continue to do my best to use Widdershins as a vehicle for community building. I believe that we are all on the same path; maybe we don't all hold the same opinions, or agree on philosophy, or practice in exactly the same ways, but we are pagans, witches, heathens, Goddess worshippers and healers. It would be nice if there were greater understanding, compassion, tolerance and harmony between us.

We are continually seeking submissions from new sources. You don't have to be an experienced writer to submit an article or story. There is almost no Craft- or magick-related theme we won't cover. For guidelines, please see the publishing information for this paper. We're also always looking for new visual artists and page designers.

We have received overwhelming responses from all over the world, and it is heartening when readers encourage us. We are ever happy to hear from you, either by "snail mail" or via e-mail, anytime, with praise, criticism or suggestions. We want to thank our many advertisers, editorial staff, writers, computer and distribution helpers and of course you, dear reader, for hanging in there and supporting us through this year. Special thanks and love go to Dedric, Greg Gallacci, Erika Ginnis, Miriam Harline, Harold S. Henry and NightOwl. Particularly special thanks and love go to Wülfgar Gregarsson, who puts up with all of us and with me ditching the rest of my life while we produce the paper. Thank you all; you are appreciated more than you will ever know.

A year ago, I couldn't see this day, and here we are, beginning the next dance around the seasons. Please dance with us, from Beltaine to Beltaine, on into the future....

Merry part.
