Tonight I went on a trip, without drugs! I had a dessert at the Beyond the Edge Café, located at 703 E. Pike, next to the Edge of the Circle Books, that transported me! I have not tasted this dessert since I was a wee child. (I know, I know - that was long before civilization.) It was something Allena (one of the proprietors) calls fudge upside-down cake, and it is the exact thing my grandfather used to make for me. He called it pudding cake, and was it delicious, then and now!
I have now visited Beyond the Edge Café several times, and each time I found it to be clean and pleasant, with a quiet but friendly atmosphere. The place is decorated with charming simplicity; I really like the use of unmatched salt and pepper shakers and eccentric teapots and cups. Plus, unlike with the previous inhabitant of the address, the Green Man Café, the food is really good! The hot turkey sandwich on potato bread is great! The espresso drinks, including the lattés, are satisfactory and hot, and you get them in a reasonable time. The real homemade soups have notably been a hit with my friends. The desserts are sumptuous. Plus, without any complaint, they made a sandwich for me that does not appear on the menu. The prices are easy on the purse strings, and I even found free parking close by!
I recommend Beyond the Edge for meals, snacks, dessert and coffee. It offers friendly help and good food, like Grandma used to make!
