In initiating this paper, we've been questioned, "Why Widdershins?" I declare, "Why not?" Some have had the perception that it is undoing, regressive, backward or even the left-hand path. It is significant to understand that in magick, everything is relative. If you understand counterclockwise as being bad, or improper, should you never make a left-hand turn? These types of sweeping generalizations are dangerous; be careful. In our tradition (practiced by the majority of the people on staff), the initial cut of our circle is widdershins, designed to remove the circle from time and space (and the mundane world). It is likewise to acknowledge that chaos rules, and lacking chaos there may be no creation. Lastly, it is to define a magickal space.
So, in fashioning this publication to be the magickal space that it is and will be, we now cut the circle. We establish ourselves betwixt the Earth and Sky. We hope to bring to this journal everything that we symbolize by that.
Our objectives for publishing at this time are many; we sense that it is timely to bring out a new voice. Not being satisfied with the status quo, we wish to and will promote provocative, intelligent, stimulating, and newsworthy dialog. What we will not do is print personal assaults, gossip or anything that is not in alignment with our purpose. We will always reserve the right to refuse to print anything, at any time, for any reason. Or for no reason at all. And to change our minds.
So, in this time of shift, progress and transformation, we hope to offer a view of what is happening in the pagan community at large. We also will be including, from time to time, chronicles from around the country. I have spoken with several "big name witches" who are willing to contribute, and I hope to have something in my hand before the next issue. So, we wish you bright blessings, enjoy the paper, heed the rede, and always remember: "It's what you learn after you know it all, that counts!" Blessed be all.
