Welcome to the official Widdershins toga party! Grab yourself a pita and some baklava, dress up in your favorite bed sheet and join us on our own little odyssey into the Greek myths.
Last year, when Melanie, Sylvana and I sat down to choose the themes for the 2004 issues of Widdershins, and someone suggested Hellenismos, aka Greek paganism, I have to admit I was a little skeptical about the topic. Shows what I know; we received several fascinating and even impassioned articles on Hellenismos. Proof -- as if we needed it -- that there's a lot more to Greek paganism than Xena and Hercules.
Bacche's piece, which introduces Hellenic reconstructionism, tells us what drew her to the Greeks. Oenochoe provides a fascinating and thorough introduction to Hellenismos and gives some starting points and references for anyone interested in that path. And J. S. Parker reports on the persecution that modern Greek pagans face in worshipping the old gods.
On top of that, Genevieve Williams gives us yet another insightful roundup of pagan-friendly music, and Dedric and Moonshadow provide us with a little humor.
Last, but not least, I'm delighted (and relieved) to announce that we have a new astrology columnist, Anita, who has given us a fun and useful first article about what the planets are up to between now and Samhain.
Brightest blessings for a joyous Mabon, and save some of that baklava for us!
